Buttermilk Gingerbread

Buttermilk Gingerbread


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
  2. Add eggs, molasses, salt, soda and spices.
  3. Stir energetically until well blended.
  4. Add flour and buttermilk alternately.
  5. Line bottom of a 9 × 13 inch cake pan with waxed paper and lightly grease sides.
  6. Pour batter into pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
