
Buttermilk Gingerbread
Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup molasses
- 3 1/3 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
Directions:
- Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs, molasses, salt, soda and spices.
- Stir energetically until well blended.
- Add flour and buttermilk alternately.
- Line bottom of a 9 × 13 inch cake pan with waxed paper and lightly grease sides.
- Pour batter into pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
